UNDERSTANDING THE COST OF CARE

The daily rate for a single hospital bed is set in a contract between the provider of care and the DHB and specifies the agreed minimum standards and services included in the provision of care. This daily rate changes normally the 1st of July of each year and will run through to the 30 June the following year.

It is important to note that some care homes provide higher specifications than the standard, with additional benefits and amenities available. These may include larger care suites, outdoor balconies and decks, individual heat pumps and other extra comforts and facilities.  These additional benefits incur a weekly charge called a care accommodation supplement on top of the basic cost for residential care.
